It is sometimes hard to believe that Muslims once ruled an empire in the heart of Europe for over 800 years. An Empire that came, set down roots and and then took European culture and learning to new heights.

But not everything is built to last forever, and in a crushing series of defeats the Empire was removed and almost all signs of it erased.

SwissMuslimEvents invites you and your families to join us for a 6-night/7-day tour of al-Andalus, the capital of Muslim Spain to visit the sites written of in our history books. To visit castles and palaces and view the beauty and splendour of what Muslims brought to Europe. And to learn lessons about the rise and fall of this great Empire.

Our tour guide – Sh. Abdullah Hakim Quick

Our tour guide will be Sh. Abdullah Hakim Quick.

Sh. Abdullah is North America’s first graduate from the Islamic University of Medinah, Saudi Arabia, and is an expert on Islamic History. He will be leading us on guided tours across Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba as well as giving presentations about the history and lessons to take from this period of history.

Sh. Abdullah has also served as an Imam, a da’ee and a counsellor in the USA, Canada, South Africa and the West Indies.

The start and end of the tour is at Malaga airport and all participants are expected to make their own travel arrangements to Malaga and then back to Switzerland. We strongly encourage everyone to arrive by 2pm at Malaga airport on Monday 21 April 2014.

Currently, Swiss operate cheap flights form Geneva to Malaga daily.

  • Accommodation at 4-star hotels in each destination across the 6 nights

  • Lectures and presentations
Excursions
During our stay we will visit:
  • Cordoba, known by many as the ‘ornament of the world’, and the most advanced city of it’s time. The city that is home to the Grand Mosque (La Mezquita), and in whose streets walked giants of learning such as Ibn Rushd (Averroes) and Maimonides.
  • The ruins of the once glorious city of Madinat Al Zahra, the first city in
Europe to be built according to a plan. It introduced to the world things like 3 course meals, knives & forks, official protocol and much much more.
  • Granada – probably one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
  • The world famous Alhambra Palace. With over 6000 visitors each day it is the most visited site in Spain, some say the whole of Europe and is usually the highlight of the tour for many.
  • Albaycin, the old Muslim quarter; the whole area designated a world heritage site. You can lose yourself in its narrow cobbled streets easily mistaking yourself to being in any of the cities of North Africa or the Middle East.
  • We will go go shopping in the souk like shops with the scent of incense in the air and rows of teashops & restaurants serving traditional Arab food and drinks.
  • Visit the new Granada Masjid, the first official mosque in the city in 500 years. From here you will see one of the most glorious views of the Alhambra with the sunset from its courtyard opposite the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada.
  • We will have the opportunity to meet & interact with the local Spanish Muslim community, which is growing daily as it once again finds its Islamic past.
  • And much more…
